Daniel N. Johnson, MD

Title: Associate, Staff Pathologist at Adventist Health Portland

Dr. Johnson joined Affiliated Pathologists Medical Group (APMG) as a Staff Pathologist at Adventist Health Portland in July 2024. He is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (2017) and Cytopathology (2019) by the American Board of Pathology. His training includes a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Chicago (2013-2017), where he served as Co-Chief Resident for a year, followed by fellowships in Head and Neck Surgical Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School (2017-2018) and Cytopathology at the University of Chicago (2018-2019).

Prior to joining APMG, Dr. Johnson held a position as a Pathologist at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, IL, focusing on Cytopathology and Head and Neck Surgical Pathology (2019-2022), followed by experience as a general pathologist for Consultants in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in Evergreen Park, IL (2022-2024). He has also served as Medical Director at Simple Laboratories, Jackson Park Hospital, Chicago, since April 2022. Dr. Johnson’s expertise in cytopathology and head and neck pathology is exemplified by his peer-reviewed publications and invited lectures with the American Society of Cytopathology and the College of American Pathologists.

Dr. Johnson earned his M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine in 2013, following a B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of Chicago. His move in 2024 from Chicago to Portland, where he now serves with APMG, was inspired by personal ties and frequent prior visits to the area as he was drawn to the Pacific Northwest’s opportunities for hiking and exploring its vibrant cultural scene.
